Centre releases Rs 53.5 lakh grant-in-aid for Udhampur, Kathua

Jammu, Mar 7 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Rural Development has released grants-in-aid of Rs 53.51 lakh for Kathua and Udhampur district Rural Development Agencies (DRDA) in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources today said.

It was the second instalment of Central share of funds under the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) during the year 2006-07.

An amount of Rs 15.77 lakh has been granted to Kathua district and Rs 37.74 lakh to Udhampur, which would be utilised as per the approved guidelines of the SGSY, sources said.

Under SGSY, which has 75:25 sharing pattern between the Centre and the state, assistance is given to the poor families living below the poverty line for taking up self-employment.

Harkat chief among two militants killed, hideout busted in J and K

Srinagar, Mar 7 (UNI) A self-styled chief of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) and another militant were killed in a fierce encounter with the security forces in north Kashmir early this morning, a senior police officer said. Elsewhere in the state security forces busted three hideouts and recovered war like stores during the past 24 hours. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kupwara, said a joint operation was launched by the police and 2 PARA Regiment after receiving information that some top militants were hiding.....

Minimum temperature below normal in the state

Jaipur, March 7(UNI) Though the minimum temperature in the state is below normal at many places, the bright sunshine during afternoons gives a feeling of summer. According to the weather office, state capital Jaipur recorded a minimum temperature at 9.9 degrees Celsius, 4 degrees below normal. Shimla, Mar 7 (UNI) At least five people were killed and 28 injured, four of them seriously, after a private bus fell into a gorge near Naina Devi in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh today, district SDM Baldev Thakur said.
