Cabinet Committee to decide on school derecognition issue

Bangalore, Mar 7 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee, headed by Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, will taka a decision on the fate of students studying in about 2,225 primary schools which were issued closure order at the end of this academic year, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti informed today.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said the State Government had ordered cancellation of permission granted to these schools for allegedly violating the Government's language policy by teaching in English after securing permission to run Kannada medium schools.

Mr Horatti said there was no question of allowing admissions in these schools for the next academic year.

The department had made all efforts to ensure that text books to all students and uniforms to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students of all Government primary schools would be supplied before the start of the academic year.

Kerala proposes to change shock treatment for mental patients

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 15 (UNI) Kerala Health Minister P K Sreemathy today told the Assembly that the government was proposing to make a change to the existing system of 'shock treatment' for treating mental patients. Iron bars stolen from Harangi reservoir recovered

Madikeri, Karnataka, Mar 7 (UNI) Police have recovered Rs four lakh worth iron bars, stolen from Harangi reservoir in Kodagu district of Karnataka, from a shop in Mysore. On a complaint from the irrigation department, the district crime branch police arrested four persons in connection with the theft and the seizure was effected based on their confession.
