Banks not extending financial support: Modi

Patna, Mar 7 (UNI) Concerned with the poor Credit-Deposit(CD) ratio in the state, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today said he would personally raise the matter before the Union Finance Minister.

''If required an all party delegation would also meet Mr P Chidambaram,'' he added.

Intervening into the reply to a short notice question of LJP's Maheshwar Singh in the state assembly, Mr Modi said though the CD ratio had slightly increased, it was still too low.

While the state government had deposited Rs 46134 crore with the banks, the banks distributed only Rs 14808 crores as loan in the 2005-06, he added.

Mr Modi said he would personally raise the matter before the union finance minister after the budget session of the assembly.

Earlier, replying to a question Bihar Rural Development Minister Baidyanath Mahto said Rs 117.74 crore was spent against the target of Rs 354.62 crore for financial support under Swarn Jayanti Gramin Rozgar Yojana in 2006-07. He said because of non cooperative attitude of the banks the target could not be achieved.

Mr Mahto said the government would have no choice except to stop the deposit in the banks in case they fail to extend financial support to the self help groups.
