AP Govt to provide pensions to poor

Hyderabad, Mar 7 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today decided to grant pensions to all old age persons, widows, deserted women and physically handicapped belonging to BPL families in areas coming under Greater Hyderabad.

At a meeting with Ministers and officials here, the Chief Minister said this was according to the government's decision to provide saturation in pensions to these categories.

The pension was also being extended to all physically handicapped people without any age limit.

He directed the Ministers and officials to sanction the pensions at the earliest.

Bangalore-Kochi rail container movement to be resumed

Kochi, Mar 7 (UNI) Container movement between ICD Whitefield (Bangalore) and Kochi is set to resume after being disrupted since February 24 due to suspension of rail movement across the Venduruthy bridge, which was damaged by a dredger. The container train will be handled at the Ernakulam Marshalling (ERM) yard till rail traffic is restored over the Venduruthy bridge, a release by DP World, which operates the Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal (RGCT) at Cochin Port, said. Water Supply Sewerage Act to be amended: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 7 (UNI) As the Kerala Water Supply Sewerage Act-1986 was inadequate to check the misuse and illegal tapping of drinking water, the state government was taking measures to amend it, Water Resources minister N K Premachandran told the Assembly today. Replying to questions by Mr P C Vishnunath (Cong) and others, he said effective clauses, including imprisonment, would be added to the legislation while amending the Act to check the misuse and illegal tapping of drinking water effectively......
