Another CRPF jawan dies under 'suspicious circumstances' in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 7 (UNI) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan died under 'mysterious circumstances' in the Kashmir valley today, a police spokesman said.

He said constable Showkeen Singh died under suspicious circumstances in CRPF Camp at Shiraz cinema Khanyar in the down town city early this morning.

He said proceedings under section 174 CrPC have been initiated by the police.

About a dozen security force personnel have committed suicide in the Kashmir valley during the past six months. A number of security personnel, including senior officers, were killed by their colleagues in different camps.

In a similar such incident, an army jawan was awarded death penalty by an Army Court here recently for killing Lt Colonel Saket Saxena at Harwan camp here last year.

Despite introduction of Yoga and Art of living to help security personnel to cope with mental stress and other family problems, security forces continue to face such condition in Jammu and Kashmir.

Gorakhpur corporator shot dead

Lucknow, Mar 7 (UNI) Unidentified assailants shot dead a ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) corporator from Gorakhpur in the posh Hazratganj area here today. Police said Sayyed Mohd Afzal alias Faizi (24) and his aide Sanu were attacked while they were standing near the Sriram Tower. While Mr Afzal died on the spot, Sanu was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition. A railways contract dispute was said to be the reason behind the crime, the police added.
