4,500 kg ball bearings for LTTE seized, 1 held

Tiruchirapalli, Mar 7 (UNI) In a pre-dawn operation, Q Branch Police arrested a Sri Lankan National, T Rahulan (31) and seized 4,500 kg of iron ball bearings meant for the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) from a local soap making unit at Venkateswara Nagar in neighbouring Perambalur District.

Tiruchirapalli Q Branch DSP Durairaj told UNI here, following the arrest and 'confession' of Sri Lankan Tamil Arulseelan (32) with suspected links to the LTTE at Dheeran Nagar here yesterday for possession of Rs ten lakh in cash, a special Q Branch team raided the 'Top One Dargo Washing Powder Company' and effected the seizure.

The iron ball bearings were packed in 150 gunny bags and was suspected to be meant for transport to Sri Lanka for the LTTE.

Mr Durairaj said during interrogation, Arulseelan confessed Rahulan of Mannar District in Sri Lanka had given Rs ten lakh to him following which today's arrest and seizure were made.

The soap company was owned by one Ramesh Kumar whose brother Manikandan was secured by the Q Branch team for further interrogation.

Speaker to convene meeting of Karnataka, TN MPs on Cauvery
