Weather warms up in Manipur

Imphal, Mar 6 (UNI) Manipur experienced a pleasant weather as the mercury rose by few notches here today.

The sky was clear and there was no rainfall, MET officials said.

The minimum temperature was around 8 degrees Celcius while the maximum was about 27 degrees.

The humidity was around 69 per cent, sources added.

Two landmines and Naxal literature recovered

Bokaro, Mar 6 (UNI) Two landmines weighing four kgs each, wire and alarge number of naxal literature were recovered near Jhumra hill in Jharkhand's Bokaro district. Superintendent of Police Priya Dubey here said that acting on a tip-off police raided the lower areas of the extremist affected Jhumra hill and recoverd the landmines and other materials kept for ultra operation. Meanwhile, in another incident police also recoverd inflammable materials used in explosion from the adjoining areas of Galoari and Amar village.....

NTPC in fray for Globeleq's assets

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Country's largest power generator National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) has placed a bid for British power major Globeleq's assets in Egypt. The power major today said it ''is submitting a non-binding indicative bid to the United Kingdom-based Lehman Brothers for acquisition of assets of 682.5 MW Sidi Krir Power Project in Egypt through 100 per cent equity acquisition of Globeleq Maghreb''. Globeleq has appointed Lehman Brothers as the investment bankers to the deal. Tata.....

Mizoram finds door for studies abroad

Aizawl, Mar 6 (UNI) As part of the state's mission to find opportunities for higher studies overseas, Mizoram's Education Minister R Lalthangliana visited Scotland. Talking to mediapersons here today, Dr Lalithangliana said students, who have finished their intermediate, will have to go through a national-level entrance examination, to get admitted in prominent colleges in Scotland. Briefing about his visit to Scotland, the Minister said he had been to three prominent Scottish universities, including Queen Margaret and Napeer University, and held discussions.....

Chhatra Parishad members arrested for demonstration

Kolkata, Mar 6(UNI) Police arrested 54 Chhatra Parishad supporters, including four women, when they staged a snap demonstration in front of the state secretariat at the Writers' Buildings today demanding punishment of a police officer who had allegedly shot dead a Congress activist in Burdwan last week. Govt successfully combatting terrorism: Tripura CM

Agartala, Mar 6 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar told the state Assembly that his government is efficiently battling all insurgent forces. Altogether 104 underground tribal militants have been killed in encounters with security forces and 862 insurgents have surrendered and returned to normal life during the last three years, official sources said. The Chief Minister, who also holdS the home portfolio, informed the state assembly that during this period, 71 security personnel have also been killed by militants.....
