Violence returns to Asom

Guwahati, Mar 06 (UNI) Violence returned to Asom after a month of lull following the National Games, as the ULFA struck at the security forces in several parts of upper Asom yesterday.

As official sources confirmed that troops had once again tightened the security dragnet all over upper Asom, there was more bad news from North Cachar Hills where a clash between two factions of the Dima Halao Daogha (DHD) claimed the lives of three Nepali villagers at Diyung Mull area.

Apprehending more violence, the Asom government sent in more reinforcement to all the Upper Asom districts as the sources informed that they had intelligence input suggesting that ULFA would strike again.

Three persons, including two CRPF jawans, were seriously injured in an ULFA-planted bomb explosion in upper Assam's Dhemaji district yesterday.

''Two CRPF men and a civilian driver were injured when a remote controlled bomb exploded beneath their vehicle at Jorkata area,'' Dhemaji district Deputy Commission D N Mishra said over phone from Dhemaji.

The DC said the powerful bomb damaged a portion of the CRPF vehicle and created a huge crater. The injured were taken to hospital.

Mishra said a combing operation under district Superintendent of Police Mridulananda Sarma had been launched to nab the militants who escaped immediately after the incident.

In the Doomdoma incident a powerful explosion took place on Monday near the Doomdoma police station where an army unit was stationed.

But there was no casualty.
