UNICEF to provide technical support for social sectors in Haryana

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The Haryana government here today signed an Aide-Memoire with UNICEF in the presence fo state Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Mr Cecilio Adorna, country representative of UNICEF in India and Mrs Anuradha Gupta, Commissioner and Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Haryana signed the MoU.

As per the Aide-Memoire, UNICEF has agreed to provide technical support to workshop participants from social sector, improvment in the workshop for training of frontline workers, review of implementation of Sakshar Mahila Samooh(SMS) programme, an IT applications of the child tracking system, identify critical issues of intervention in various social sector areas, formulation of a strategy to address issues of female foeticide, explore co-convening private sector participation in areas that could be beneficial in increasing resources available to children and undertake situational analysis of the conditions of women and children and monitoring of the child rights convention.

The UNICEF team visited village Rasoi in district Sonipat in the first week of January this year where community driven supplementary nutrition, through women self help groups under Integrated Child Development Scheme and SMS, was launched.

As per agreement, UNICEF will provide technical support in organising a workshop in the second quarter of 2007, under which different departments of the State government dealing with health, nutrition, child development, water-sanitation, rural development and education issues will participate.

They will work to develop a common understanding of the need for a coherent and strategic framework for behaviour development and behaviour change communication.

NHRC makes slew of recommendations on healthcare

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Emphasising the need to upgrade healthcare facilities at ''all levels'', the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today made a slew of recommendations, including introduction of public private partnership, for ensuring that the masses have access to healthcare. The suggestions include recognising courses for Nurse Practitioners, introduction of public private partnership with a regulatory mechanism, Medical council to have inbuilt compulsory rural attachment, proper drug procurement mechanism, intervention of health and labour departments and industry in checking.....

'Mecca Agreement' important step for WA peace : India

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) India today described the 'Mecca Agreement' for the establishment of a Sovereign State of Palestine as an important step and reaffirmed its support to the Palestinian cause. ''India has always been strongly supportive of the Palestinian cause and the establishment of a sovereign State of Palestine through negotiations with the State of Israel. The Mecca Agreement is an important step in this direction,'' an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said in response to a question......
