Two ships gutted in fire, losses upto Rs two crore

Jamnagar, Mar 6 (UNI) Two ships were gutted in a fire that broke out at the Salaya port, about 75 km from here, causing losses upto Rs two crores.

The fire first broke out in the 350-tonne Safina Al Salami, due to a petrol pipe fault, and spread to the other ship Vali Bag that was anchored closeby, last evening, officials said.

Twelve fire-fighters and four water tankers were used to douse the blaze that was brought under control at around 0200 hrs today.

The ships belonged to one Salim Qasim Sanghar and initial estimates put the losses at Rs two crore.

The ship 1100-tonne Vali Bag was newly acquired by the owner and was to go to Dubai for its fittings.

Fire-fighters from Essar, Reliance and Jamnagar Muncipal Corporation etc, were among the 12 pressed into service.

Guwahati refinery fire may hit supply

Guwahati, Mar 6 (UNI) A fire that broke out in the Indian Oil Corporation's (IOC) Guwahati refinery last night, which forced it to shut down for the next 72 hours, may affect supplies to lower Asom temporarily. Jamshedpur, Mar 6 (UNI) The CPI(Maoist) today said it was responsible for killing JMM general secretary and MP from Jamshedpur Sunil Mahto to avenge the lynching of 11 Naxals at Lango in east Singbhum district in 2004.
