Student commits suicide over denial of hall ticket

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 6(UNI) A 17-year-old senior intermediate student committed suicide by hanging himself to a ceiling fan at his residence in Tadipalligudem town in West Godavari district last night.

Police said the student, Srinivas, who was studying intermediate in a private college at Tadepalligudem, was rejected his hall ticket to appear for the annual examination which began yesterday, due to lack of attendance.

Srinivas's request for the issuance of a hall ticket was rejected by the management, citing Government order, which stipulates a minimum of 60 per cent attendance. The boy, however, had only 49 per cent to his credit.

On hearing the news, the family members of the deceased and student organisations squatted in front of the college gate, demanding an inquiry into this incident. However, there was no interruption in the examinations in the town, police added.

Life imprisonment to five

Daltonganj, Mar 7 (UNI) A local court today sentenced to life imprisonment five persons in a three-year old murder case in Jharkhand's Palamu district. Additional District and Sessions Judge Vishnukant Sahay awarded life term to Joki Bhuiyan, Gopal Bhuiyan, Sanjay Bhuiyan, Jangalui Bhuiyan and Lala Bhuiyan for killing one Shashikant Tiwary at Rerma village under Daltonganj police station on February 23, 2004. The court also awarded them rigrous imprisonment for two years. The body of Shashikant was thrown into the Kacharwa.....

HC directs Bihar Govt to probe irregularities in business school

Patna, Mar 7 (UNI) Patna High court today asked the Bihar government to probe into the alleged irregularities at Lalit Narayan Institute of Business Management, Muzaffarpur, and sumbit the report within eight weeks. A division bench comprising Justices Aftab Alam and Rekha Kumari passed the order on a public interst litigation (PIL) petition filed by the business college's non-teaching employees association. The court told the government to set up a committee for such probe into the irregularities of the management institution......

Congress Corporator shot at by miscreants, escapes unhurt

Cuttack, Mar 7 (UNI) A Congress Corporator in the city escaped unhurt when some miscreants attacked him last night, police said today. Police said the miscreants fired from a close range on Congress Corporator of Cuttack Municipality Dillip Behera while he was coming out of his office at Chandi Chhak.
