Srirangam Jeer donates sacred thread in Tirumala temple

Tirumala, Mar 6 (UNI) Sriranga Narayana, Jeer of Sri Ranganayukulu temple in Srirangam at Tamil Nadu, today donated Golden Yogana Pavitham (sacred thread) worth Rs 51 lakh at Tirumala temple.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) sources said the Jeer came here yesterday with his disciples from Srirangam and offered worship to goddess Padmavathi Ammavaru temple in Tiruchannoor and Govidaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati and left for Tirumala by road for overnight stay at Pedda Jeer Mutt in the hilltop.

The Jeer was accompanied by TTD Chairman B Karunakara Reddy and Executive Officer APVN Sarma, among others, while carrying the sacred thread in a procession after performing pooja from Bedi Anjanayulu Swamy temple to the Balaji temple.

Later, the Jeer handed over the sacred thread to Mr Sarma to adorn Srivaru in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

The sacred thread was sponsored by M Mohanraj and family from Cheyyar in Vellore district through the Jeer.

K'taka govt to construct 20 permanent helipads

Mangalore, Mar 6 (UNI) In view of the increased tourists inflow to Karnataka and growth in the aviation sector, the state government has decided to construct 20 permanent helipads at a total cost of Rs two crore, Infrastructure Development Principal Secretary V P Baligar said today. DPI stages demo against attack on fishermen by SL Navy

Chennai, Mar 6 (UNI) Members of the Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) led by party general secretary Thol Thirumvalavan today staged a noisy demonstration here, condeming the continuing attack on Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel.
