Seminar on women Mar 8

Tirupati, Mar 6 (UNI) A two-day national seminar on empowerment of women in Indian scenariao will be conducted for first time by the TTD -run Sri Padmavathi Women's Degree College on March eight and nine.

The event is sponsored by University Grants Commission (UGC).

According to a press release, the seminar would discuss the real status of women in economic, social and poltical spheres and evaluate the adequacy of legislative provisions and institutional mechanisms for development and empowerment of Indian women.

The Constitution empowered the state to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women, the release said.

However, gender inequality manifestd itself in various forms in almost all sectors of the society and a wide gap existed between enunciated goals and existing realities.

As many as 95 participants have registered from different parts of the country to submit papers at the seminar.

The seminar will be inaugurated by Acharya Nagarjuna University V Balamohandas and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Excutive Officer A P V N Sarma will preside.

Final voters list by Mar 12

Puducherry, Mar 7 (UNI) The final voters list for 2007 for all the assembly constituencies in the union territory except(30) Yanam will be published here on March 12. Joint Chief Electoral Officer P T Rudragoud, in a release here today said the final photo voters list would be displayed in all polling stations and the office of the electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers from March 12 to 18. Delimitation to be finalised in July

Tirupati, Feb 6 (UNI) Delimitation Commisssion Chairman Kuldeep Singh today said the final draft of delimitation would be announced in July. Addressing the media, after the meeting, Mr Singh said several representations and valuable suggetions on 'delimitation' were received from various political parties and the public of Rayalaseema and coastal districts. The final decision would be taken only after discussing with associated members - MPs and MLAs, he added. UNI.....

3 nominations filed for Rajnandgaon by-poll

Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, Mar 8 (UNI) Three candidates have filed their nominations so far for the Lok Sabha by-election in Rajnandgaon constituency of Chhattisgarh where polling is slated for March 29, official sources said. BSP nominee Balkrishna Agrawal and independent candidate Ajuram Chandravanshi filed their nomination yesterday. Earlier, Gondwana Ganatantra Party's Ramesh Thakur had filed his nomination on March 5. The last date for filing nomination is March 10. The by-poll was necessitated as sitting BJP MP Pradeep Gandhi was disqualified.....
