Select metal prices recover on fresh industrial demand

Mumbai, Mar 6 (UNI) Select metal prices recovered on fresh industrial demand along with the London Metal Exchange, traders at the Bombay Metal Exchange said today.

In the Ferrous category, Copper utensils rose by Rs 200 per quintal, Brass utensils and brass cuttings also inched up by Rs 100 each per quintal respectively on higher advice.

In the Non-ferrous category, Zinc slab and copper wire bars rose by Rs 200 each per quintal while Lead ingot went up by Rs 100 per quntal on reduced stock supply.

Nickel cathode eased by Rs 10 per kg on lack of fresh demand.

Following are the spot metal prices per quintal: Ferrous metals: Copper heavy - Rs 30,600, Copper utensils - Rs 28,700, Brass utensils - Rs 23,300, Brass cuttings - Rs 24,400 and Aluminium utensils - Rs 11,900.

Non-ferrous metals: Copper wire bars - Rs 34,000, Aluminium ingots - Rs 14,400, Zinc slab Rs 18,700, Lead ingots - Rs 8,300, Tin slab - Rs 680 (per kg) and Nickel cathode - Rs 2,040 (per kg).

Rupee resumes high at 44.55/56

Mumbai, Mar 6 (UNI) The Rupee today opened firm at 44.55/56 against the US dollar compared to its previous day's close of 44.62/64, due to fresh dollar demand from foreign banks in view of firm global advices, dealers said. The Indian currency edged up this morning, following the lead of other Asian currencies, though investors remained concerned about the weakness in equities that had pushed the currency down to its low for 2007. Later, the partially convertible Rupee was again up.....

Call money firms up to end at 5.00-5.25 per cent

Mumbai, Mar 6 (UNI) The inter-bank Call money today closed 5-10 basis points higher at 5.00-5.25 per cent, amid concerns among traders that the Central Bank might initiate action to absorb surplus cash. Intra-day, the rates fluctuated between a low of 5.05 per cent and a high of 5.40 per cent. The Central Bank had yesterday announced that it may absorb a maximum of Rs 3,000 crore per day at its reverse repurchase auction window, the lowest-yielding money market instrument......
