Security tightened ahead of Prez's visit

Lucknow, Mar 6 (UNI) Security has been beefed up ahead of President A P J Abdul Kalam's visit to Uttar Pradesh on March 10.

The President would visit the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) training academy at Ghaziabad on March 10 to participate in the para military force's raising day.

UP Governor T V Rajeswar and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil would also participate in the hour-long programme at the Indirapuram-based academy.

A meeting chaired by chief secretary N C Bajpai today reviewed the security arrangements to be made on the VVIP visit.

Several senior police officials, including DGP Bua Singh and other government functionaries from various departments participated in the meeting, police sources added.

The President would remain in UP for an hour and leave for the national capital along with the union home minister.

Ramesh Inder is Punjab Chief Secretary

Chandigarh, Mar 6 (UNI) The Punjab government today formally announced the appointment of Mr Ramesh Inder Singh as state Chief Secretary. According to an official release, the new Chief Secretary will also hold charge of the departments of personnel, general administration, elections, vigilance, wildlife and power. Mr Singh who is on deputation with the Centre is expected to be repatriated shortly. The outgoing Chief Secretary K R Lakhanpal has been posted as presiding officer of the state colleges and schools.....

13 injured in bus-truck collision in punjab

Phagwara, Mar 6 (UNI) Thirteen people were injured in collision between a bus and a truck near village Chachoki here tonight, police said. The state roadways bus was on its way to Patiala from Jalandhar when the mishap occured. The injured were admitted in civil hopsital here, Police added. UNI.....

Varanasi, Mar 6 (UNI) A year after two powerful explosions killed 18 people in this temple town, four accused in the case remain untraceable even as the blasts mastermind faces a lengthy judicial trial. Five ultras are accused in the three cases -- Varanasi railway station blast, Sankatmochan blast and pressure cooker borne explosive recovery case. An accused, Mohd Jubair was killed by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police on the outskirts of Lucknow the day after the March.....
