Security concerns on FDI being addressed: Ashwani Kumar

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The Government today said proposals which required prior government approval for foreign direct investment (FDI) were considered by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), an inter-ministerial body, which took into account all factors including security matters.

"All aspects of national security are of paramount concern of the government, and all concerns of national security sensitivity are being constantly addressed suitably," Minister of State for Industry Ashwani Kumar said today in the Lok Sabha.

He said the Government had allowed a liberal FDI policy under which FDI is permitted on the automatic route in most sectors or activities where no prior government approval was required.

The Foreign Exchange Management (Transfer or Issue of Security by a Person Resident Outside India) Regulations 2000, incorporating the FDI policy, indicated the countries where investment was not permitted, he said.

DGFT probing allegations of pulses' export: FM

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Three exporters of pulses are under the scanner of Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) for defying a ban imposed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said today. The export of pulses is currently banned by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Mr Chidambaram told the Rajya Sabha that some exporters may have exported Indian pulses by backdating the letters of credit. He said the Finance Ministry will soon.....

Incidents of air misses double in last five years

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Incidents of near misses between aeroplanes have almost doubled in the last five years, the Rajya Sabha was told today. However, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said the use of 'near misses' should be changed to 'air proximity incidents' as per the definition given by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. '' The rate of such incidents per one lakh movement, when aircraft had come in close proximity to another due to a breakdown of standard distance.....
