Sanyo eyes Indian electronics mkt with two arms

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Japanese consumer durable major Sanyo aims to grab a four per cent market share in digital cameras and increase its presence in colour televisions (CTVs) in India.

''Sanyo wants to tap a four per cent share of the digital camera market, estimated at 5,00,000 units in its first year of operations. We want to be amongst the top three players in the next three years (2010),'' Mr Manjunath Prasanna, National Product Head, Digital Products, Sanyo BPL told reporters here today.

Sanyo's 50:50 JV with once-leading now-fading electronics major BPL -- Sanyo BPL -- is also looking at increasing its meagre five per cent share in CTVs.

The company's 100 per cent subsidiary Sanyo India Private Ltd has lined up a range of 10 digital cameras, two of which -- VPC E60 and VPC S60 -- were launched today.

''With two companies (Sanyo BPL and Sanyo India) we can very well compete with the existing players in the market...

As more players enter the market, the individual market share will naturally shrink,'' Mr Prasanna said.

Sanyo BPL, which was incorporated in December 2005 with investments worth 70 million dollars from each side, manufactures CTVs at its Bangalore facility.

Sanyo India which is in its first year of operations since 2005, imports products including washing machines, refrigerators, micro waves, digital cameras and has tied with JSK Pvt Ltd for marketing the newly launched digicams in North India including Delhi.

Sanyo India will launch three digital cameras next month, followed by five more launches in May this year.

The pan-India launch of the digital cameras is expected to be complete by June this year, starting with North.
