Rio assures full security for bypolls

Kohima, Mar 6 (UNI) Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has assured that his government will provide ''full security'' during the coming by-elections to Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar-II Assembly Constituencies scheduled on March 8.

Addressing an election rally at Dimapur yesterday, in support of Nagaland People's Front (NPF) candidate Atomi Zhimomi, Mr Rio said that sufficient security personnel would be deployed at the polling stations for free and fair elections.

He said his party has fielded two young candidates for the by-elections and expressed confidence that the NPF would win in both the seats.

Speaking in the meeting, Home Minister Thenucho charged the Congress with failing to ensure peace and development during their regime unlike the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) and appealed to the people to vote for the NPF.

Meanwhile, Dimapur Deputy Commissioner K Nzimongo Ngullie imposed restriction of movement on all private and government vehicles from 0500 to 1600 hours on March 8, the date of election to the Dimapur-I Assembly Constituency.

No need to rush to AICC hqs, Gehlot cautions ticket seekers

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Cautioning ticket aspirants for the forthcoming municipal elections against rushing to the AICC headquarters, Congress General Secretary (Delhi Affairs Incharge) Ashok Gehlot today said the entire process would be handled by the Pradesh Congress Committee in a transparent and systematic manner. No one should rush to the AICC office to get his candidature recommended or attested as a proper transparent system has been put in place to ensure that a genuine candidate and the grassroot level.....

DPCC sets up screening committees to select clean candidates

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) In order to field candidates with good and clean image in the coming Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, Congress in Delhi will select candidates through 'screening committees' that will have cadre representatives from the block and district levels. The committees would comprise Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President, area MP and MLA, party's Block and District Presidents, chiefs of Youth Congress, National Students Union of India, Congress Sewa Dal and Mahila Congress, and a PCC observer, DPCC President.....
