Ramesh Inder is Punjab Chief Secretary

Chandigarh, Mar 6 (UNI) The Punjab government today formally announced the appointment of Mr Ramesh Inder Singh as state Chief Secretary.

According to an official release, the new Chief Secretary will also hold charge of the departments of personnel, general administration, elections, vigilance, wildlife and power.

Mr Singh who is on deputation with the Centre is expected to be repatriated shortly.

The outgoing Chief Secretary K R Lakhanpal has been posted as presiding officer of the state colleges and schools tribunal relieving R C Nayyar of the additional charge.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal after assuming charge on March two had announced the appointment of Mr Singh as Chief Secretary.

UDF strike turns violent, five cops injured

Kozhikode, Mar 6 (UNI) Five police personnel, including two officers, were injured as the opposition United Democratic Front(UDF) sponsored strike turned violent at different places here today. Police said Nallalam Sub-Inspector Balachandran and constable Manoj sustained injuries when irate UDF protesters, who took out a procession at the locality, pelted stones at security men on duty. Kerala to give more thrust to tourism development: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 6 (UNI) Kerala Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today told the Assembly the government was planning to constitute a 'Infrastructure Finance Development Corporation', creating basic facilities for promotion of tourism in the state. The government would never encourage tourism projects that affected the environment, he said, while replying to questions by V Chenthamarakshan and others and asserted it would take stern action against encroachers. Stating that shortage of accommodation facilities was the main problem faced by the state, he said.....
