PPPC organise fast to shelve Port develp project

Puducherry, Mar 6 (UNI) The Puducherry Peoples' Protection Committee (PPPC) today organised a fast in front of the legislative assembly to press the administration to drop the Port development project here.

The committee members alleged that if the project was executed it would badly affect the coastal villages here, particularly Thengaithittu, and also harm environment and ground water.

Meanwhile, villagers of Kombakkam hoisted black flags atop their houses to register their protest against the proposed setting up of a Satellite town in their village.

They urged the administration to drop the proposal and protect the fertile agricultural lands in their village.

8 nominations filed for Rajnandgaon bypoll

Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, Mar 9 (UNI) Eight candidates have filed their nominations so far for the Lok Sabha byelection in Rajnandgaon constituency of Chhattisgarh slated for March 29, official sources said. The ruling BJP and the main opposition Congress had announced the names of their candidates yesterday. However, they did not file nomination today and were expected to do so tomorrow. The last date for filing nomination is March 10. The by-poll was necessitated as sitting BJP MP Pradeep Gandhi was.....

TRS, Communist members force adjournment of AP House

Hyderabad, Mar 6 (UNI) Members of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS), the TDP, Left parties and BJP stalled the proceedings of the Andhra Pradesh assembly, forcing Speaker K R Suresh Reddy to adjourn the house for 15 minutes. While TRS members wanted debate on their adournment motion on denial of hall tickets to Intermediate students for shortage of attendance, the TDP, CPI(M), CPI and BJP demanded discussion on wages of village servants and class IV employees on par with government servants. US diplomat predicts hung assembly in UP

Varanasi, Mar 9 (UNI) Foreseeing a hung assembly after the coming Uttar Pradesh assembly poll, a leading US diplomat today said the possibility of President's Rule being imposed in the politically crucial state could not be ruled out. ''From the feedback we have gathered from various parts of UP, it appears that no party be it ruling SP, Cong, BSP or BJP is likely to get majority...the post poll scenario can be really confusing, which may also result in central rule.....
