MP bypolls: Cong notices to ex-ministers

Gwalior, Mar 6 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee today issued notices against former state ministers Mahendra Baudh and Govind Singh, for disobeying party orders, and directed them to respond within a week.

The leader duo were yesterday directed to canvass in favour of the Congress nominee contesting the March 8 Udaypura assembly constituency bypoll. Despite that, the two remained active in Gwalior area.

Former Home Minister Baudh, considered a close confidante of All India Congress Committee General Secretary and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, and former Minister of State for Cooperatives Govind Singh also made certain sarcastic remarks against the Scindia family while drumming up support ahead of the parliamentary byelection there.

Recent public meetings in several locations of this state were part of an alleged show of strength between the Congress' Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia versus Mr Digvijay Singh. Later, fences were mended and Mr Scindia staged a roadshow here in support of Mr Singh.

The Congress pitted Mr Ashok Singh against the Bharatiya Janata Party's Gwalior candidate Yashodhara Raje Scindia who is also Madhya Pradesh Tourism and Sports Minister.
