'Mecca Agreement' important step for WA peace : India

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) India today described the 'Mecca Agreement' for the establishment of a Sovereign State of Palestine as an important step and reaffirmed its support to the Palestinian cause.

''India has always been strongly supportive of the Palestinian cause and the establishment of a sovereign State of Palestine through negotiations with the State of Israel. The Mecca Agreement is an important step in this direction,'' an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said in response to a question.

The spokesman said India also appreciated the significant contribution of Saudi Arabia and its King Abdullah in facilitating the formation of a Palestine Government of National Unity in the expectation of resumption of dialogue on the Israel-Palestine track.

The Mecca Agreement, which was signed under Saudi auspices on February eight at the initiative of the Saudi King, reflects a strategic alliance between the PLO and Hamas in a number of areas including the Palestinian government, the makeup of the PLO, and the conflict with Israel.

Punjab Cabinet decides to scrap Vigilance Commission

Chandigarh, Mar 6 (UNI) The Punjab Cabinet today decided to abolish the Punjab State Vigilance Commission (PSVC), which was set up by the previous government. Badal to head police reforms Cabinet sub-committee

Chandigarh, Mar 6 (UNI) The Punjab Cabinet today decided to set up a Cabinet sub-committee on police reforms. This sub-committee would be headed by Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, who has been authorised to nominate other members of the Committee. First zoo in J

Jammu, Mar 6 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir will have its first zoo at Manda Deer Park in the outskirts of the city by year 2009, official sources said. The Wildlife Protection Department is working on the project, the Master Plan of which has been approved by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA). Over 300 hectare area under Ramnagar Sanctuary (Manda Deek Park) is being developed as the modern semi-natural zoo, which the department claims would be the biggest in northern India......
