MCD elections acid test for my political career: Khurana

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Conceding that the forthcoming municipal polls were an acid test for his political career, former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana today began his election campaign saying the twin issues of price rise and Delhi Master Plan would be the Bharatiya Jan Shakti party's main plank.

Addressing mediapersons, along with firebrand leader Uma Bharti, Mr Khurana said both the BJP and the Congress had let down the people of Delhi over the Master Plan and basic issues like prices of essential commodities.

''We want to win both the elections -- MCD and Assembly -- to make Delhi an ideal state and get it full statehood which was long overdue. Not granting full statehood to Delhi was the root of all evils plagueing it and the BJP was equally guilty of it as was the Congress.'' Declaring he would soon undertake a 'yatra' to reach out to people and apprise them of the issues dogging them, the former Rajasthan Governor said the BJP was more guilty of causing destruction in Delhi by not bringing the Master Plan in time.

On which side he would swing in case of a hung council, the former BJP leader said his party was aiming for a majority of its own.

Ms Uma Bharti said while the issue of price rise had touched a raw nerve of the common man, the unfathomable Master Plan was another issue which concerned all those residing in the city state.

''Getting full statehood for Delhi was another 'unmindful development' for which we would fight the elections.'' The Master Plan had failed to live to the aspirations of the people and we want it corrected, she added.
