Jharkhand Assembly condoles Mahto's death

Ranchi, Mar 6 (UNI) The Jharkhand Assembly today condoled the death of Jamshedpur MP Sunil Mahto, who was gunned down by Maoists near Jamshedpur city on March 4.

The house remembered the contribution of the slain leader by observing two minutes silence. Later the Assembly adjourned for the day.

Mr Mahto, who was also Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's General Secretary, was gunned down by CPI (Maoist) activists along with another party leader and two body guards at Baguria village In East Singhbhum district.

Speaker Alamgir Alam said Mr Mahto had his identity and fought for rights of the downtrodden.

Chief Minister Madhu Koda and leader of the Opposition Arjun Munda also expressed grief over the death of the leader.

NTPC in fray for Globeleq's assets

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Country's largest power generator National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) has placed a bid for British power major Globeleq's assets in Egypt. The power major today said it ''is submitting a non-binding indicative bid to the United Kingdom-based Lehman Brothers for acquisition of assets of 682.5 MW Sidi Krir Power Project in Egypt through 100 per cent equity acquisition of Globeleq Maghreb''. Mizoram finds door for studies abroad

Aizawl, Mar 6 (UNI) As part of the state's mission to find opportunities for higher studies overseas, Mizoram's Education Minister R Lalthangliana visited Scotland. Talking to mediapersons here today, Dr Lalithangliana said students, who have finished their intermediate, will have to go through a national-level entrance examination, to get admitted in prominent colleges in Scotland. Briefing about his visit to Scotland, the Minister said he had been to three prominent Scottish universities, including Queen Margaret and Napeer University, and held discussions.....

Chhatra Parishad members arrested for demonstration

Kolkata, Mar 6(UNI) Police arrested 54 Chhatra Parishad supporters, including four women, when they staged a snap demonstration in front of the state secretariat at the Writers' Buildings today demanding punishment of a police officer who had allegedly shot dead a Congress activist in Burdwan last week.
