ITFAA holds buyer-seller meet to promote NE handicrafts

Guwahati, Mar 6 (UNI) A unique buyer-seller meet on handicrafts products of the North Eastern states today focused on diversification and adoption of new techniques by the craftsmen to attract buyers from the international market.

Organised by the Industries and Trade Fair Association of Asom (North Eastern Region), in association with the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) under Union Government, the meet was attended by a number of representatives from Asian countries and a few businessmen of the neighbouring countries.

Guwahati Mayor Gunawati Teron, while inaugurating the meet welcomed the foreign dignitaries, and hoped that the event would succeed attracting buyers from the neighbouring countries.

Delivering the keynote address S Dkhar from Union Textile Ministry said the region has enough resources and the ministry was promoting the handicrafts sector.

Thai representative Tharadol Thongruang, explaining the steps taken by the Thai government to promote handicrafts, said the artisans and craftsmen have to be trained properly to ensure a ready market both within and outside the country.

The government has to come forward to help the rural people.

Indonesian diplomat Among Setiaharta, while supporting the views of his Thai colleague, said a number of items displayed at the 14th International Guwahati Trade Fair was attractive.

Pakistani businessman Khwaja Parvaiz Badar Ud-din, who has participated in the ongoing Trade Fair, invited the participants to the Pakistan pavilion of the fair and requested others to look into the garments produced by his firm.

Sample of handicrafts, produced in the region, was also displayed in the meeting. The first session was followed by interaction between buyers and sellers.

Sensex opens firm at 12,972.90 points, up by 275 pts

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) The 30 scrips of the BSE Sensex today resumed positive at 12,972.90 points with a massive gain of around 275 from its last close of 12,697.09 points on sustained heavy speculative demand from FIIs and Mutual funds in view of firm advice from Asian markets, brokers said. Mcorp Global bags BPO order from Indian Railways

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) Mcorp Global has bagged an order from the Indian Railways to provide the value-added business process outsourcing (BPO) services to railway passengers. Briefing the media persons on the sidelines of the Spice People's Phone launch, Mcorp Global chairman Dr B K Modi said ''As per the agreement reached between Indian Railways and my company, we will be providing BPO services to the railway passengers comprising more than 40 crore, in two ways including basic services and premium.....

Metal prices hike on good industrial demand

Mumbai, Mar 7 (UNI) Metal prices hiked on good industrial demand along with the London Metal Exchange, traders at the Bombay Metal Exchange said today. In the ferrous category, copper heavy and brass cuttings increased by Rs 400 and Rs 600 per quintal respectively on higher advices. Copper utensils and brass utensils also inched up by Rs 200 each per quital on reduced stocks supply. In the non-ferrous segment, copper wire bars rose by Rs 500 per quintal and aluminium ingots,.....
