Eight nominations for council byelection in Bihar

Darbhanga, Mar 6 (UNI) Altogether eight candidates, including Congress and JD(U) nominees, today filed their nomination papers for Darbhanga graduate constituency byelection for the Bihar Legislative Council to be held on March 24.

Filing of nomination would continue till tomorrow and the scrutiny will be held on March 8.

Withdrawal of candidature is on March 10.

The byelection is due to death of Congress member Nilambar Choudhry.

Lucknow, Mar 6 (UNI) The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) today announced a change in the candidature from Khurja Assembly constituency of the Bulandshahr district. Earlier, Suman Kumar Singh's name was announced by the party but now Virendra Pratap Singh Raghav will contest from 363-Khurja Assembly seat, SP general secretary and state PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav told mediapersons here. Udaypura, MP, Mar 6 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today claimed that the Congress is the sole party that is the ''true protector of minorities' interests'' and preparations are underway for ensuring their development by implementing the Sachar Committee's recommendations. ''It is because of Congress President Sonia Gandhi that a minority community's representative Manmohan Singh occupies the Prime Minister's post,'' he said while addressing an election rally in this assembly constituency's Begumganj, in Raisen district, to drum up support for Congress.....

Water levels decrease in major reservoirs

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 6 (UNI) Water levels of major reservoirs in Kerala have decreased during the past one week. According to the figures released by the Central Water Commission for the week ended March five, the water level at Idukki Reservoir decreased from 2360.04 ft to 2357.20 ft, at Idamalayar from 500.03 ft to 495.14 ft and at Kallada from 351.05 to 346.59 ft. When compared with the water levels recorded during the same period last year, Kallada, Idukki and Idamalayar reservoirs.....
