DUJ condemns arrest of eveninger Editor in Mangalore

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) today condemned the arrest of the Editor and Managing Director of Mangalore-based eveninger 'Karavali Ale' and demanded a probe into the incident.

''The arrest is an infringement on the freedom of the press which seems to be motivated by vested communal interests,'' DUJ president S K Pande said.

The DUJ also demanded an immediate release of Editor B V Seetaram and his wife and Managing Director Rohini, who were arrested yesterday for writing and publishing defamatory articles about Jain Digambar Munis.

Mr Pande said the action must be initiated against police officials involved in the incident.

CPI remains stationary

Shimla, Feb 28 (UNI) All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), on base 2001-100, for January this fiscal remained stationary at 127 points, Labour Bureau sources today said. The index recorded an increase of four points in Sholapur Centre, three points in Rajkot centre, two points in 11 centres and one points in 24 centres, while it decreased by four points in Labac-Silcher centre. India Cements merges associate co with itself

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) India Cements Ltd today said it will merge Visaka Cement Industry Ltd (VCIL), an associate company with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, with itself. Post the merger, India Cements will be one of the top cement companies in India and will have a total capacity of around 12 million tonnes. As per the arrangement, one equity share of Rs 10 in the company will be issued to VCIL's shareholders for every five equity.....

Inflation to be brought down to 4-5 pc: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The government is confident of bringing down inflation to the ''tolerance level'' of 4-5 per cent, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said today.
