Cong councillors not to take part in bandh

Puducherry, Mar 6 (UNI) Congress councillors in the union territory will not take part in the 24-hour bandh called by the Federation of Village Panchayat Presidents Association here March 15.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Congress councillors here today.

The federation called for the bandh to press for devolution of powers to elected local body representatives.

Meanwhile,BJP State President Visveswaran urged the administration to hold talks with the federation to find an amicable settlement and avert the bandh.

At meeting of the coordination committee of the ministerial staffs here yesterday, it was noticed even after one year, the government failed to implement the promises given to them and decided to organise the agitation. To press their demands, including filling up of vacancies for UD clerical and superintendents posts, the minsterial staffs would organise a demonstration in front of the chief secretariat on.....

Four nominations for council by-election in Bihar

Darbhanga, Mar 7 (UNI) Altogether four candidates today filed their nomination papers for Darbhanga graduate constituency by-election to be held on March 24. Today was the last day for filing the nomination papers. With this, altogether 13 candidates have filed their papers for the by-election. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on March 8. Withdrawal of candidature will be permitted till March 10. The by-election is due to death of Congress member Nilambar Chaudhry. Ranchi, Mar 7 (UNI) The CPI (ML) will field Mr Ravindra Bhuiyan in the Palamu Parliamentary seat by-election slated for March 29.
