Cong a party of the poor, dalits, tribals: Jaiswal

Sidhi, MP, Mar 6 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home and Congress leader Sriprakash Jaiswal today described the Congress as a party of ''the poor, dalits and tribals'' that sought votes of these segments.

''We do not need anything from capitalists. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ought not to receive a single vote from the poor segment,'' he said while addressing a meeting in favour of Congress candidate Manik Singh on the last day of canvassing for the March 8 Sidhi (ST) parliamentary constituency bypoll.

Alleging that the BJP was undeserving of trust, the Minister added that it was natural to doubt the integrity of a party accused of instigating riots.

''The Gandhi-Nehru family made an immense contribution to the country's independence and development. The Congress is playing a key role in the uplift of all segments, particularly women. Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh urged me to ensure that Mr Manik Singh emerges victorious here,'' Mr Jaiswal explained.
