Coal wagon catches fire in Purulia station

Purulia, Mar 06 (UNI) A loaded coal wagon caught fire on the railway track of Purulia station today.

Station Manager Shyama Prasad Majumder, who noticed the fire on platform number 2, informed the fire brigade.

Two fire engines rushed to the railway station and brought the blaze under control after two hours.

Due to the fire, train services on the Adra-Purulia-Tatanagar Section of South Eastern Railway (Adra division) was affected for three hours.

A probe had been ordered into the incident, an official said adding that no injury was reported so far.

Budget may have steps to improve the lot of farmers

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) Following the alarm caused by suicides by farmers in various parts of the country, the government is considering a slew of measures aimed at improving their lot, including a hike in subsidy on farm loans, tax free bonds by NABARD to recapitalise Rural Co-operative Banks and sops to strengthen rural infrastructure. Sources say some of these may find a place in Budget 2007-08, including permitting NABARD to float tax free bonds to re-capitalise rural co-operative banks......

Violence returns to Asom

Ratnagiri to get a nuclear power station

Kaiga, Karnataka, Feb 26 (UNI) With the power crisis worsening in Maharashtra, the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) has got the Central Government's approval to construct a nuclear power station at Jaitapur in Maharashtra's Ratnigri district, AEC Chairman Dr Anil Kakodkar disclosed here today. He made the disclsoure in reply to a question from Mumbai media who visited Kaiga to witness the criticality of 220 mega watt unit-3 of the nuclear power plant here today.
