CFM International to open training centre in India by 2010

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) To provide advanced maintenance courses for the CFM56 engine, aircraft engine manufacturer CFM International has said it will open aircraft engine maintenance training school here in 2010.

The school will be its fourth in the world, coming after the ones that it has established in the United States, Europe and China.

''Once the facility is fully operational, we will have the capability of training upto 500 engineers from India and other neighbouring countries in South Asia every year,'' CFM Vice President (India) Paul-Andre Chevrin said.

''We are excited by the opportunity to bring advanced CFM56 engine maintenance training to India,'' he added.

The new 1,000 square metre training school, which will mirror the facilities already operating in China, France, and the United States, will initially provide advanced courses in line maintenance and borescope inspection for CFM56-7B and CFM56-5B, which power respectively Boeing 737s and a majority of Airbus A320 series aircraft, a company statement said.

CFM International is a 50:50 joint venture between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) and General Electric company and the world's leading manufacturer of aircraft engines.

A CFM56 engine logs an average operational flying time of roughly 3,000 hours every year. It can be serviced without removal for up to a record of 36,000 hours. More than 13,000 CFM56 engines are in service around the world.
