Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 6 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today informed the Assembly that the government had received a warning from the Union Home Ministry about the possibility of extremist forces infiltrating the state through its coastal areas.
In a written reply, he said the Centre had directed the state to step up vigil and patrolling of coastal areas and review security of strategic spots in view of possible extremist infiltration.
The state Home Department had issued necessary directions to coordinate activities of the state police and the Intelligence Wing, so that untoward incidents did not occur, he said, adding an internal security monitoring system had been put in place under an Inspector General of Police and special cells set up in each district.
The Centre had permitted setting up coastal police stations to protect coastal areas, check intrusions and extremist activities.
The Home Minister clarified the government had not received any report on the possibility of extremist outfits making plans to unleash communal tension in the state.
