Bollywood financer Bharat Shah receives death threats

Mumbai, Mar 6 (UNI) Diamond merchant and Bollywood financer Bharat Shah, who has produced films such as ''Devdas'',''Satya'' and others, has been receiving death threats from the underworld from Dubai.

Mr Bharat Shah confirmed this to UNI,''Yes, I have been receiving death threats. The person calling me has been identifying himself as Shetty from Dubai. I received one call the day before yesterday at 2300 hours and the second call was yesterday at 2240 hours. They have been asking me that I should close the chapter of my property that I have at Royal Palms. They have been telling me that the property does not belong to me. It belongs to a person called Amir.'' He added ''I have been receiving threats that if I do not close the chapter on Royal Palms, they will finish me and my family.'' He clarifies,''I was arrested under MCOCA for my alleged links with the underworld, but I was given a clean chit by the court, which said I have no such links.'' Apart from ''Devdas''Mr Shah has financed super-duper Bollywood hits such as ''China Gate'', ''Satya'', ''Lajja'', 'Mast'', ''Pukar'' and ''Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam''to name a few. He holds the world rights to these films.

Exemption limit for cash transaction raised to Rs 50,000

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The exemption limit for individuals and HUFs under the Banking Cash Transactions Tax (BCTT) has been raised to Rs 50,000 from Rs 25,000. Cash withdrawals by the Central and State Government have been excluded from the scope of BCTT. Finance Minister P Chidambaram while presenting the Union Budget for 2007-08 in Lok Sabha today said that as other instruments become more effective, it would be possible to review the provision next year. Angadia workers robbed of valuables worth Rs 11 lakh

Rajkot, Mar 6 (UNI) Four armed men robbed angadias of valuables worth Rs 11 lakh near Maliaya-Miyana on Rajkot-Bhuj highway, police said. The incident occurred at 2030 hrs last night in a Gujarat State Roadways Transport bus enroute to Batwa from Narayan Sarovar in Kutch district, police sources said. Allocation for the North-Eastern region enhanced

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The total budget allocation in 2007-08 for the North-Eastern Region, culled out from allocations under different Ministries/Department has been increased from Rs.12,041 crore in 2006-07 to Rs.14,365 crore in 2007-08. Presenting the Union Budget for 2007-08 in the Lok Sabha today, Finance Minister, P Chidambaram said this amount included Rs.1,380 crore provided to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER).
