Bihar lowest in the developmental indexes-Modi

Patna, Mar 6 (UNI) Bihar is at the lowest rank in the laid standards for the developmental indexes as per the Economic Survey.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds the Fianace portfolio, today tabled the report of the Economic Survey in the assembly showing the state at the lowest rung in all most all developmental indexes.

Later Mr Modi told newspersons that in terms of Credit Deposit(CD) Ratio, agricultural production, Human Developmental Indexes and in other sectors Bihar remained at the lowest step. Mr Modi said the present government had taken all steps for the quantum jump Bihar has to take for an over all development.

He said the average growth rate remained at 5 per cent down the years and the government has fixed a target for achieving 8 per cent growth rate in the coming financial year.

He said it is for the first time in the annals of Bihar that an economic survey had been conducted adding that the report of the economic survey 2006-07 had been prepared by the Asian Developmental Research Institute (ADRI). The report would be considered as the base to assess the development of the state in future he said.

Pawar urges farmers to supplement income by non-farming avenues

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar inaugurated a three-day Krishi Vigyan Mela( farmers fair) at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) here last evening with a call to the farmers, especially the poor ones, to look for alternative avenues of income to supplement their income from crop farming. Besides improving their living standards, it will also protect them from weather related risks, Mr Pawar said. Suggesting the farmers to increase crop productivity, the minister said.....

India Inc expects slew of measures in Budget 07-08

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) With the prices touching a two-year high, CEOs of leading companies expect a cut in corporate tax and measures to boost the capital markets in the Budget 2007-08 to be presented on February 28. A high 72 per cent of 150 CEOs and Managing Directors surveyed by the Assocham Business Barometer (ABB) anticipate that the Finance Minister P Chidambaram will bring down the peak level of customs duties of 12.5 per cent to 10 per cent.....

Budget may have steps to improve the lot of farmers

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) Following the alarm caused by suicides by farmers in various parts of the country, the government is considering a slew of measures aimed at improving their lot, including a hike in subsidy on farm loans, tax free bonds by NABARD to recapitalise Rural Co-operative Banks and sops to strengthen rural infrastructure. Sources say some of these may find a place in Budget 2007-08, including permitting NABARD to float tax free bonds to re-capitalise rural co-operative banks......
