Andaman resort owner arrested for possessing drugs

Port Blair, Mar 6 (UNI) Police have arrested a resort owner in Havelock Island for possession of drugs.

''Our team has arrested one Viraj Singh Hooda, proprietor of Sanctuary Resorts, Wandoor and recovered Ganja and Charas. A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 has been registered against him and further investigation is in progress,'' Superintendent of Police, Andaman, Jaspal Singh said today.

He has also wanted in connection with another case for violation of the provisions of Foreigners Act 1946, he further said.

Following a tip-off, the police team led by Dy SP(CID) V P Pandey and Inspector Tarsem Singh raided Hooda's house situated at Sanctuary Resort, Wandoor and recovered the 42 grams of Charas and 35 grams of Ganja.

4 Army personnel killed in avalanche

Gangtok, Feb 24 (UNI) Four army personnel were killed in an avalanche at Lachung, near here, Army sources said today. According to a late report, the four jawans were on patrol when the accident occurred. They were trying to manoevre their way in a snow bound area at a high altitude above a stream at Mukti near Lachung on Februry 19, army sources said . The bodies of three jawans had been recovered, about 500 feet away from the accident.....

Inspector shot dead in Bihar

Biharsharif, Mar 6 (UNI) Inspector Shekhar Singh posted at Asthawan police station was shot dead by armed criminals at Biharsharif in Nalanda district late last night. According to police the criminals opened fire at Mr Singh near the railway crossing in Biharsharif when he was on way to the police station from his residence.Mr Singh died on the spot. IMA urges JAC and doctors to end agitation

Imphal, Feb 24 (UNI) Indian Medical Association (IMA) president A Vivekananda has appealed to the Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed by the family members of a woman who died on February 19 at RIMS, to call off their strike. The IMA president also urged Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) doctors to resume their services, which they closed down after two female doctors were allegly assaulted by the public. The JAC had called a general strike and is now threatening.....
