55,000 ration cards set ablaze

Ratlam(MP), Mar 6 (UNI) About 55,000 new ration cards and related documents were gutted in a fire at the municipal office here on the night of 'Holi', police said today.

The incident came to light on Sunday morning when employees reached the community hall at Alkapuri, where the documents were kept.

Following complaints of bogus ration cards, the authorities started preparation of new ration cards after cancelling the existing one. About 55,000 new ration cards prepared for distribution had been kept at the community hall, official sources said.

Police registered a case against unidentified people, while the District Collector sought a report on the incident from Municipal Commissioner O P Pagare, who also formed a committee for departmental inquiry.

Power shortage will not be severe during summer: Deshmukh

Nagpur, Mar 6 (UNI) Seeking to put at rest fears of prolonged load-shedding in the state during the summer months this year, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the power shortage would ease in the coming weeks with the generation expected to increase by 1,200 Mega Watt (MW) by next month and another 700 MW by the end of the year. Mr Deshmukh told reporters here, the two new units of 250 MW each, at the thermal power stations at Paras.....

CM announces special sea-shore package

Gandhinagar, Mar 6 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today announced a five-year special package for people living on the sea-shore in the state. The Chief Minister, while announcing the package in the state assembly, said an amount of Rs 11,000 crore has been earmarked for the project. For the first year, a provision of Rs 7100 crore has been made under the package for a 12-point programme, which included efficiency, education, coastal national security, employment, health of fisherfolk, drinking water,.....
