1,068 cops punished in past one decade in Goa

Panaji, Mar 6 (UNI) As many as 1,068 police officials had been punished either over corruption charges, misuse of official position or other irregularities during the last 10 years since 1997.

Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane, in reply to an unstarred question of Francis P D'Souza (BJP) in the Legislative Assembly yesterday, said two police officers had been punished through enquiries initiated by the Directorate of Vigilance and seven officials of the rank of Police Inspectors had been facing disciplinary proceedings.

At the same time, the Directorate of Vigilance had initiated preliminary esquire against three officers above the rank of inspectors. Two other retired officials had also faced the probe, he added.

SHO suspended over minor's rape-murder

Varanasi, Mar 6 (UNI) A Station House Officer (SHO) posted in neighbouring Ghazipur district was today suspended on charges of dereliction of duty in connection with the recent rape-murder of a minor girl. Official sources said here DIG (Varanasi Range) R P Singh taking swift congisance of violation of Uttar Pradesh government and High Court directives suspended SHO (Saidpur) Surendra Tiwari of Ghazipur district. The nine-year-old daughter of one Lalchand Majhi, a resident of Saidpur was missing since March.....

2 women drown in canal

Lakhimpur Kheri, Mar 6 (UNI) Two women drowned in the Sharda canal here, when the boat they were being ferried on capsized midstream this evening. The victims were identified as Champa Devi (70) and her grand-daugher Lalli (10) of village Rajpur Kabiraha. The incident occurred in Isanagar area, police said. About 15 people were travelling in the boat, however, 13 of them swam to safety. The body of Champa had been fished out, while divers were trying to recover the girl's.....

MP bypolls: Lalu to canvass tomorrow

Bhopal, Mar 5 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad will drum up support for the Congress tomorrow, the last day of canvassing for the March 8 bypolls to two parliamentary constituencies and an assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh. Child killed in grenade explosion in Kishtwar

Jammu, Mar 6 (UNI) An eight-year-old boy was killed while a girl was injured in a grenade blast at Chatroo in Kishtwar tehsil of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources today said. Sajjad Ahmed Wani, 8, was killed and his cousin Rukaya Bano, 6, critically injured when a grenade exploded in their house at Rather Mohalla in village Kucchal yesterday, the sources said. The injured child was hospitalised with splinter injuries in her ribs. UNI.....
