Vice-Admiral gives Annual Fleet Proficiency Awards

Visakhapatnam, Mar 5 (UNI) The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command (ENC) and Vice-Admiral Arun Kumar Singh today presented the Annual Eastern Fleet Proficiency awards and gave away proficiency trophies to the fleet ship Rear Admiral D K Joshi.

Speaking at the award function here, he said in the past 36 years the eastern fleet had gradually grown into a large fleet. Its area of responsibilities and reach had also grown.

He recalled the various operational achievements of the fleet, including the disaster relief provided to the earthquake victims of Jakarta in June 2006.

The eastern fleet, the sword arms of the ENC which began in June 1871 had grown into a well balanced, strong and cohesive multi dimensional force capable of facing challenges in the sea for effective surveillance and safe-guarding frontiers of the east coast.

In all, 21 trophies were awarded to ships, which had excelled in various professional disciplines and tasks assigned for meeting operational readiness and safeguarding the national interest on the eastern seaboard.

Among the ships, which received honours and distinctions, the frontline destroyer, INS Ranvijay commanded by Captain B S Parher emerged as the winner of the most coveted best ship of the eastern fleet trophy. For overall excellent performance, INS Savitri commanded by Commander R V I Ahuluwalla was awarded the most spirited ship trophy.

The naval dockyard Admiral Superintendent Dilip Deshpande today inaugurated the 21st Inter Department Quality Circle Convention in Naval dockyard.

According to a Navy release, more than 60 quality circle teams of dockyard workers would present their projects during the convention.

It would enhance the quality of workmanship by improving the reliability of ships and submarines repaired in Naval dockyard, the release added.

Union Budget colourless, directionless exercise: Joshi

Kolkata, Mar 2 (UNI) Describing the Union Budget as a ''colourless and directionless exercise'', senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi today said the it held no hope for any section of society. More temples to be registered: Kunal

Saharsa, Mar 02 (UNI) Secretary of Bihar state religious board Kishore Kunal today said that more temples with considerable donations would be registered soon.
