Ultras pumped 14 bullets into Mahto at soccer match

Ranchi/Jamshedpur, Mar 5 (UNI) Naxalites yesterday pumped 14 bullets into MP from Jamshedpur Sunil Mahto who was watching a soccer match as chief guest at an interior place of East Singbhum district bordering West Bengal.

According to an eyewitness at Baguria village, near naxalite-affected Ghatshila in Jharkhand, the match was about to be over when the armed ultras attacked Mr Mahto's four security guards killing two--Deep Raj and Sahdeo Raj Shastri--on the spot.

Another party leader, Prabhakar Mahto, was also killed in the melee.

They immediately snatched the arms from the other two and pumped bullets into the MP from Jamshedpur, the eyewitnesses said.

Mr Mahto despite being shot tried to get up.

The ultras again relentlessly sprayed bullets into him and left the body in a pool of blood.

According to post mortem report, 14 bullets hit the MP.

The Maoist activists then fled into the jungles bordering West Medinipur district in West Bengal.

The security forces were finding it hard to track them as the naxalites planted landmines in the area.

Official sources said about 25 ultras carried out the ghastly killing but eyewitnesses said hundreds of them gheraoed the dais from behind where the VIPs were seated.

The driver of Mahto and eyewitness, Kaushik, who escaped narrowly, told mediapersons in Jamshedpur that the ultras set on fire the car of Mahto after killing him.

The ultras kept shouting slogans against the police administration while carrying out the killing, he added.
