UK Health Mission scouts investment opportunities in Bengal

Kolkata, Mar 5 (UNI) In a bid to identify investment opportunities in Bengal, a seven-member UK Health Mission today visited Bengal to explore and collaborate with Indian private companies in the field of medical technology equipment, genetic services and Research&Development.

Speaking at a seminar on,"Exploring Healthcare Opportunities for partnership," British Deputy High Commission Deputy Head of Mission Kevin McCole here said, ''We have identified medical technology industry as an emerging market in India. Last year UK exported medical technology equipment and healthcare services worth 14 billion pounds. We want to utilise the Indian market and do business with this country.

''Demand for private medical care is growing in Bengal and eastern India is a healthcare hub for North East and neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bangladesh. Private hospitals are buying modern equipment to offer premium products to customers.'' National Genetics Reference Laboratory(Manchester) head Dr Rob Ellis, also a delegation member, said, ''We are also interested in setting up genetic services in eastern India to treat genetic and congenital diseases.'' UK Healthcare Mission is scouting for joint venture partners in Bengal to enter into joint ventures or other types of collaborations to invest in the field of human genetics, R&D and medical equipment.

The Mission would also visit Chennai and Delhi. Representatives of five helathcare companies, including TrusTech Innovation, Tarilian Consulting Ltd, First International Services, are part of the delegation.

CDG expects further delay in 3G Spectrum Policy

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) The CDMA Development Group (CDG) today said there could be a further delay in the announcement of the 3G Spectrum Policy. A delay in the policy announcement would create more uncertainty in the timing of the launch of 3G services, deprive Indian consumers and businesses of the benefits of these services, and keep India behind other countries, including many of its neighbours who have already launched 3G services, the CDMA association said here. Canara, Oriental Bank, HSBC Insurance ink MoU for Life Insurance

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up a joint venture company in life insurance was signed here today betwen HSBC Insurance (Asia-Pacific) Holdings Ltd, Canara Bank and Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC). Under the proposed agreement, Canara Bank will take a 51 per cent stake in the new company, HSBC a 26 per cent interest and OBC the remaining 23 per cent.
