Two male elephants die of electrocution

Mysore, Mar 5 (UNI) Two male elephants were killed after they came in contact with a live wire at Yelakkuru in Chamarajanagara District early today.

Chamarajanagara forest officials said that in all four elephants had entered the farm land of Mariswamy near Santhemaralli last evening and had destroyed standing crops, including sugarcane.

The officials tried to send back the elephants yesterday.

However, two elephants, aged about 15 years, were found dead in the morning after they came in contact with a live wire put up to the fence.

Govt increases DA of MCH employees

Ban on dollar gram (chana) lifted to alleviate farmers' distress

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) In a move aimed at alleviating the distress of farmers due to sharp fall in prices of dollar gram (chana), the Government today announced that the ban had been lifted on its export. Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath in consultation with Mr Sharad Pawar, Minister for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, decided to lift the ban on export of this particular variety of chana to mitigate the farmers' distress condition.
