TN Assembly session begins Mar 22

Chennai, Mar 5 (UNI) The Budget Session of Tamil Nadu Assembly will begin here on March 22.

Governor Surjit Singh Barnala had summoned the Assembly to meet at 0930 hrs on the day, according to a communique from the Raj Bhavan.

Assembly Speaker R Avudaiyappan told reporters the House would pass a condolence motion on March 22 on the demise of AIADMK MLA S V Shanmugam and then adjourn for the day.

Finance Minister K Anbazhagan would present the Budget for the year 2007-08 on March 23.

The nearly 40-day session is expected to be stormy with Opposition gearing up to take on the Treasury benches on various issues, including the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final award, Mullaperiyar and the recent seizure of a huge cache of explosives off the state's coast.

Pattali Makkal Katchi, an ally of the ruling DMK which had been striking a discordant note of late, was also likely to cross swords with the government on issues such as entry of multi-nationals into the retail sector in the state.

CM denies difference in Cabinet over ADB loan

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 5 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told the State Assembly today that there had been no difference in his Cabinet over availing the Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan for Sustainable Urban Development Proects being implemented by municipal corporations in the state. Replying to a submission by Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, he said all proceedings in this regard were done in the most transparent way. A special Cabinet meeting on March two had ratified the agreement.....

Paswan to launch Phase-II of Neem Project tomorrow

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers and Steel Ram Vilas Paswan will launch the Phase II of the Neem Projecthere tomorrow. The project titled ''Production, Promotion of Neem-based Pesticides as Environment Friendly, Biodegradable Alternative to Chemical Pesticides'' has been initiated with financial support of the Central Government through the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals. Kerala plan outlay pegged at Rs 6,950 cr

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI)The annual plan of Kerala for 2007-08 has been fixed at Rs 6,950 crore, including additional Central assistance of Rs 60 crore for projects of specialimportance to the state. The plan size was finalised at a meeting bedtmeen Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan here today. Mr Achuthanandan told mediapersons later that the Centre had sought Rs 250 crore as one-time central assistance, but the Planning Commission had sanctioned.....
