TDP stages dharna

Chittoor, Mar 5 (UNI) Lashing out at the state government for failing to get adequate allocations for the state in both railway and general Budgets, Telugu Desam Party activists observed dharnas in front of the Railway stations at various places in Chittoor district today.

About 50 TDP activists led by district Telugu Yuvuta General Secretary Sridar Varma and district party Secretary B V Ramana gathered at the Railway station and staged a dharna for more than half an hour in Thirupathi. They raised slogans against the Centre's and railway's discrimination towards the state as reflected in their Budget.

Later they submitted a memorandum to the Station Manager Murthy.

The TDP activists had also observed dharnas in front of the Railway stations at Srikahalahasti and Puttur.

J and K Govt sanctions Rs 10.15 cr for agriculture development

Srinagar, Feb 20 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Government has sanctioned Rs 10.15 crore aid for agriculture and allied services in Pulwama district under district plan for the year 2006-07, an official said. He said an expenditure to the tune of Rs 6.40 crore has been incurred an these services till January 2007. This included Rs 77.35 lakh an agriculture, Rs 156 lakh an T&V, Rs 81.32 lakh for horticulture, Rs 94.21 lakh an animal husbandry and Rs 127.48 lakh an.....

National Grid will be enhanced to 37,000 mw BY 2012: Shinde

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today said the capacity of the National Grid which stands at 11,500 MW will be enhanced gradually to about 18,400 MW this year and to more than 37,000 MW by 2012. The Consultative Committee of the Members of Parliament (MPs) for the Ministry of Power met here under the chairmanship of Mr Shinde to discuss the development of National Grid. The MPs lauded the pioneering efforts of the Powergrid in conceptualising.....

Building collapses

Chennai, Mar 5 (UNI) Mobile phones and accessories worth Rs ten lakh were damaged when a 75-year-old building housing the cellular phone showroom at Purasaiwalkam in the city collapsed early today. Police said attributed the reason to construction work on a basement in the adjacent premises. However, nobody was injured. UNI.....
