TADA court defers Salem's plea till March 14

Mumbai, Mar 5 (UNI) The designated TADA court at Mumbai today deferred till March 14, the plea of extradited gangster and serial blasts accused Abu Salem and again directed the Mumbai police to file a confidential report about the threat to the don's life during his journey to Delhi for a court appearance.

TADA Judge P D Kode deferred Salem's plea following the inability of the Mumbai police to produce the confidential report pertaining to the don's threat perception during his journey from Mumbai to Delhi.

The Tis Hazari Court of New Delhi had issued a production warrant against Salem in an extortion case and directed the police to produce him in court on March 27.

Following this directive, the Mumbai police had arranged to take Salem by train, which is more than a 24-hour journey. Upon this, Salem's lawyer Ashok Sarogi, along with Rashid Ansari, had moved an application in the court contending that there was a threat to Salem's life. They said that Salem was ready to bear the expenses of air travel of both himself and the escort party.

They told the court that Salem suffers from a spinal cord problem and the doctor who examined him had advised to refrain him from taking a long journey.

After hearing Salem's lawyer, the court directed the Mumbai police to file the confidential report.
