Seven rebels held, six arms recovered

Agartala, Mar 5 (UNI) Security forces nabbed seven militants of various outfits, including a banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) cadre, during the last 48 hours from different parts of the state.

Police here today said, three militants, including a self-styled ''lance corporal'', were arrested by the security forces from Chawmanu police station area under Tripura's Dhalai district yesterday and four countrymade guns recovered from them.

During the anti-insurgency operation launched by the security forces with Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans, a gang of armed militants suddenly fired on TSR from the jungle at Tankarai para under Chawmanu police station.

The security forces immediately retaliated, forcing the insurgents to flee. After the encounter, security forces captured two rebels and recovered four countrymade guns from them.

Two suspected militants had also been arrested from Gandacherra police station area in Dhalai district on Saturday by the security personnel.

The suspected militants were reportedly involved in abduction of two daily labourers from a lorry on Friday, sources said adding that two more countrymade guns were recovered from two abandoned places under Kanchanpur and Kamalpur sub-divisions in North and Dhalai districts respectively yesterday.

FM does not cede to industry demand for lowering corporate tax

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Not ceding to industry's demand, Finance Minister P Chidambaram today ruled out reduction in the scheduled rate of corporate tax, saying that the effective rate of corporate tax was 19.2 per cent -- lower than any other Asian country. "In no Asian or ASEAN country is the effective rate of corporate tax as low as 19 per cent", Mr Chidambaram said in his address and the Question-Answer Session that followed with members of FICCI......

Annual Plan at Rs 9,000 crore, Montek pats Delhi CM

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) The Annual Plan for Delhi was today given a hefty hike of more than 70 per cent for the year 2007-08, with the plan size being fixed at Rs 9,000 crore. Last year Delhi's Annual Plan was of the size of Rs 5,200 crore. The Plan was fixed at a meeting at Yojna Bhavan between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Dr Ahluwalia complimented the State government.....
