Prisoners on fast in Lakhisarai

Lakhisarai, Mar 5(UNI) Prisoners of a local jail today proceeded on an indefinite fast in protest against supply of poor quality of food to them by the jail management.

Prisoners were also protesting against lack of basic amenities in the jail premises. Authorities were trying to persuade them to call off their agitation.

Meanwhile, deputy jail superintendent Madanshankar Varma denied the allegations of the prisoners and said that they were being provided food and amenities accroding to the rules and funds available with the jail administration.

Baalu approves road improvement works in Himachal Pradesh

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Union Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu has approved an amount of Rs 1707.39 lakh for undertaking improvement works on National Highways in Himachal Pradesh. A sum of Rs. 420 lakh has been sanctioned for maintenance and repairs of NH 1A, 20, 21, 21A, 22, 70, 72 and 88. JSW Steel posts 30% growth in crude steel production

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) JSW Steel, part of the four-billion-dollar O P Jindal Group, today reported a 30 per cent growth in its crude steel production in February. The growth was despite shutdown of one of the furnaces due to accidental fire on February 15, the company said. The volume growth during the month has been achieved across all products excepting galvanising products. Chhattisgarh Annual Plan finalised at Rs 7,413.72 cr

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The Annual Plan for Chhattisgarh for the year 2007-08 was today finalised at Rs 7,413.72 crore, which includes additional central assistance of Rs 35 crore for projects of special interest to the State. The Plan size was fixed at a meeting in Yojna Bhavan between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.
