Planning Commission to fix Megh annual Plan tomorrow

Shillong, Mar 5 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister J D Rymbai today said the state government has proposed Rs 1.360 crore as its annual plan size for 2007-08.

Talking to reporters before leaving for the national capital to fix the state's annual plan with the Planning Commission tomorrow, Mr Rymbai said the Cabinet has approved the government proposal for the next fiscal considering several important projects to be taken up during the year.

Deputy Chief Minister Donkupar Roy, Home Minister Robert G Lyngdoh and State Planning Board Chairman Salseng C Marak and Chief Secretary S K Tewari accompanied the Chief Minister.

Mr Rymbai said the proposed Rs 1.360 crore as its annual plan size for 2007-08 has been increased by 40 per cent.

In its proposal to the Planning Commission, the Chief Minister said the government's top priority would be on Power, Roads, Special Rural Area Development, Agriculture and Health and Education.

Mr Rymbai also hoped that the Planning Commission will approve the Meghalaya's proposal to accelerate development in the state.

Explosives haul: two arrested

Madurai, Feb 20 (UNI) In a pre-dawn swoop, a special police team raided a metal manufacturing unit here and seized 2000 kg explosives, kept for smuggling to Sri Lanka, and arrested two people. On a tip-off, the special team from Ramanathapuram searched the godown of the unit at Pethaniapuram area and effected the seizure - two tonne of aluminium balls packed in 80 gunny bags. Sahai joins Koda detractors but PCC chief defends him

Jamshedpur, Mar 5 (UNI) Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahai today joined two senior MPs in criticising the Madhu Koda-led UPA government on the law and order situation, saying 'corruption and mismanagement' continued to be the root cause of spurt in insurgency in Jharkhand. The Minister of state for food processing, who was present at the press conference of Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal here, said he was not satisfied with the Koda government's performance in tackling the problem......

SIT completes investigation, Maulana Umarji prime conspirator

Vadodara, Feb 21 (UNI) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Gujarat police has completed its probe in the five-year-old Godhra train carnage, concluding Godhra-based Maulana Hussain Umarji was the prime conspirator. The investigating agency, which has filed altogether 17 chargesheets against 135 accused during the course of its investigation into the gruesome incident of February 27, 2002, has however not been able to establish any link of any Pakistani or Kashmir terrorists link with the 115 accused arrested so far.
