NTPC BoD okays amendments in objects clause to pursure nuclear biz

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) State-owned power major National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC) today received the approval from its board to amend the object clause of its Memorandum to undertake activities related to nuclear power generation.

Last month, the government gave its go-ahead to the company to foray in nuclear power generation. The company is expected to make an announcement in the direction by 2007-08.

NTPC Ltd, the country's largest thermal power genarating company, has plans to generate 2,000 MW nuclear power by 2017.

The board of the company has already given its principal approval.

Shinde asks SAARC nations to come together for meeting energy needs

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today called upon the SAARC countries to come together to meet the energy needs of the region efficiently and in a sustainable manner. Inaugurating the South Asia Energy Dialogue here today he appealed to the participants consisting of experts, academicians, and epresentatives of various organisations from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka as well as India, to reach a consensus so that no unreasonable restriction that may obstruct.....

Haryana bans sale of pesticides by 3 companies

Chandigarh, Mar 5 (UNI) The Haryana government has declined permission to three companies to stock, sell and exhibit pesticides manufactured by them in the state as their products were either found to be of substandard quality or misbranded. Haryana Agriculture Director R K Khullar said the companies which had been declined permission to stock, sell and exhibit pesticides manufactured by them were M/s Gujarat Krishi Chem Corporation, Mumbai, M/s Jaishil Sulphur and Chemical Industries, Mumbai and M/s Harenba Industries Limited,.....

Under-age marriages on rises in Northeast

Aizawl, Mar 3 (UNI) Despite several initiatives, incidence of under-age marriages have increased in six Indian states, including four northeastern states and West Bengal, reports said. The latest report of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2005-06 yesterday revealed that 20.6 per cent girls in Mizoram, 41 per cent in Tripura, 40.6 per cent in Arunachal Pradesh and 30.1 per cent in Sikkim were married-off below the age of 18.
