Minister vows action against culprits

Hyderabad, Mar 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy today assured the Assembly that the government would identify and take action against those who attacked the crew of a Telugu news channel inside MNR Medical College.

A high-level probe, under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of police, had been ordered to arrest the culprit, he said and added the government would not hesitate even to confiscate the property of the accused, who were absconding, to bring them to book.

Five people were taken into custody for questioning in connection with the attack on crew members, who went to the college to shoot the visit of members of Medical Council of India.

Earlier, the entire opposition condemned the 'attack' on media and demanded that the government cancel the permission granted to the college, which was allegedly trying to hoodwink the authorities with fake patients and doctors at the time of MCI team's visit to the MNR College on March 2.

TDP Legislator D Narendrakumar alleged that attacks on media personnel were on the rise ever since the Congress assumed office.

He wanted the government to make public the circumstances relating to promulgation of an Order 938 relating to media and its subsequent withdrawal.

Intervening on this issue, the Minister said the GO had nothing to do with the incident in the MNR College.
