Marandi's bodyguard beats up photographer

Jamshedpur, Mar 5 (UNI) Photographer of a local Hindi daily was beaten up with the butt of a rifle by the bodyguard of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Democratic) president and former Chief Minsiter of Jharkhand Babulal Marandi at Tata Main Hospital here, where the body of the slain JMM MP Sunil Mahto was kept.

The security men also misbehaved with the members of other electronic media when they were taking snaps of Mr Marandi.

The incident took place when Mr Marandi went to pay tributes to Mr Mahto. Mr Marandi tendered apology follwing the indecent behaviour of his bodyguard.

But the agitated photographers squatted before the morgue, demanding an apology from the culprit himself.

The lensemen withdrew dharna after the guilty security man apologised.

Prisoners on fast in Lakhisarai

Lakhisarai, Mar 5(UNI) Prisoners of a local jail today proceeded on an indefinite fast in protest against supply of poor quality of food to them by the jail management. Prisoners were also protesting against lack of basic amenities in the jail premises. Authorities were trying to persuade them to call off their agitation. Meanwhile, deputy jail superintendent Madanshankar Varma denied the allegations of the prisoners and said that they were being provided food and amenities accroding to the rules and funds.....

Meghalaya govt calls for increasing agricultural production in NE

Umiam, Mar 7 (UNI) With a view to addressing the problem of growing food deficit in the country, Meghalaya Governor M M Jacob today called for increasing agricultural production in the North East(NE) region by adopting modern technologies. French cos heading to Punjab, Himachal

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) French food-processing companies are heading towards Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to tap their huge potential in agribusiness. ''We are seeking technical and financial cooperation with Indian companies in food-processing and agri-business,'' Mr Nicolas Forissier, French Minister of State for Food Processing Industry , told UNI.
